Staff Selection Commission will hold an All India Open Competitive Examination for appointment to the posts of Stenographer Grade C and Grade D as allowable in different Central Government Ministries, Departments and Offices. As per the SSC Calendar 2017, the exam is going to be held in September 2017.
Staff Selection Commission (SSC) has released the detailed notification for Stenographer Exam in June 2017 for around 1000+ posts of Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and Grade ‘D’. Age Limit: The age criteria for the applicants is 18 years to 27 years as on 01.08.2017. Candidates ought to note that just the Date of Birth as recorded in the Matriculation or Secondary Examination Certificate will be acknowledged by the Commission for deciding the age qualification.
Age Relaxation will be given according to Central Government Rules. Only the upper age limit is relaxable for SC, ST, E.S.M, PWD candidates.
- SC / ST: 5 years.
- OBC: 3 years.
- PH: 10 years.
- OBC PH: 13 years.
Qualification: The candidates who wish to apply for the examination must have passed Class 12th or an equivalent examination from a recognized board. The Staff Selection Commission will not accept any degree coming from various distance education institutions.
Application Fee: The applicants ought to pay the imperative charge just through State Bank of India either as Challan or through SBI net banking or credit card/debit card of any bank. The application fee is ₹100 for General & OBC Candidates.
Selection Procedure: SSC selects the candidates for Steno posts on the basis of the merit list of written exam. The skill test carries the qualifying nature and will be conducted for the qualifiers of the written exam.
In case of Ties, the following criteria will be used to select the appropriate person:
- Marks obtained in the written test.
- Date of Birth will be checked. Older candidate will be preferred for the job.
- Alphabetical order, the first name candidate will be selected for the post.
Ladies applicants and applicants fitting in with Scheduled Caste, Scheduled Tribe, Physically Handicapped, and Ex. Servicemen qualified for reservation are exempted from paying application charge according to surviving Government Orders.

Note: The last date of the filling up of the SSC application form for the Stenographer Grade ‘C’ and Grade ‘D’ recruitment examination is 15th July 2017. The online application for SSC Steno posts are started from 18th June 2017.
