We hope that you have religiously followed the week by week strategy shared by one of our mentors. Now in this post, we will share the strategy on how to approach your exam, the time that you should spend on each section and the last minute revision – the topics that you need to revise to clear the exam. Alongwith that, we will tell you how to approach mock tests.

Important Topics to Revise in Last Week before Exam

First and foremost thing, do not start a new topic. This week is dedicated for revision only. The topics which you think are difficult for you, please leave them. Focus on your strong areas and leave the ones that you have not prepared so far.

Now with this in mind, let’s once again look at the pattern. Maximum marks are allotted to General Awareness and English. Of these two, most productive, i.e. the section in which you can score maximum marks with minimum time.

Strategy for General Awareness

Read and revise the static GK from the same sources and material from which you had prepared. Do not download any new stuff. Read your notes. Then after this is over, read the current affairs of last 3 months, from January 2017 to March 2017.

Do not go deep into the statistics or stuff. You should know important events that took place in these three months. This whole current affairs exercise should not take your more than 1-2 hours for a month. So maximum 6 hours in whole week you should devote to this.

Strategy for English

It is important to revise the important topics to make the most of your exam preparation. Almost 20 questions are asked from fill in the blanks and error spotting. To excel in this, you need to be good at grammar. A good hold on grammar and vocabulary would easily sail you through the cut-off.

We have prepared a topic-wise revision and practice modules which you can refer by clicking here. The modules and posts are scientifically designed by the experienced teachers which will aid to your revision. Next important topic in English is One Word Substitution, Phrase Replacement/ Sentence Correction, Reading Comprehension of which almost 18 questions are asked.

Make it a habit to practice 20 minutes in the early morning and 20 minutes at night to solve our free practice tests on these two topics from the link given above. You will surely get good marks if you will holistically follow this in the last 7 days. Next comes spellings, idioms and phrases and antonyms and synonyms.

Almost 12 questions are asked from these topics. Make it a habit to see the spellings carefully of everything you read. Of these topics, idioms and phrases are easy to learn. Set a target of learning 50 idioms and phrases daily for the next seven days.

Strategy for Numerical Aptitude

The Numerical Aptitude section aims to test your simplification skills and numeracy skills used in day to day life. The two important topics are Simplification and Interest. Simplification involves questions revolving around BODMAS technique.

Practice these questions and learn the concepts and basic fundamentals of divisibility, HCF, LCM etc. Try to use these techniques in not only basic questions but also in miscellaneous type’s questions which use more than one concept. There are limited types of questions that are asked in SI and CI. Learn the concepts and the formulas.

Next important and easy topic is Trigonometry and Heights and Distances. Read from the material that you have used till date and try to solve as many questions as you can. Other important topics include Mensuration, Geometry and DI. The secret to success in Mathematics is practice. Don’t just read, start doing.

Strategy for Reasoning Ability

This section is though very time consuming but it is very scoring. It is easier to get 10-12 marks in Reasoning Ability but to score 20+ marks, you need to practice. Some topics are very easy like directions, coding-decoding, classification and Venn diagrams.

However, you will need to practice questions relating to series, blood relations and puzzles to score 20+. The best way to learn this section is through mock tests which is discussed below.

Time Management for Each Section

However there is no particular sequence which is to be followed while attempting, yet you can always decide a particular time that you need to spend in each section.

Though you can devote as much time that you want, yet this might be used as a referral. The table below shows the time which needs to be spend while attempting exam.

SubjectQuestionsTime to be devoted
Reasoning Ability2525
Numerical Aptitude2530
English5035
General Awareness5030
Total150120

Please understand that each question carries equal mark and there is no need to spend too much time on a particular section.

SSC MTS Mock Tests

In the last week, give a maximum of 3 mock tests in 7 days, that too in the first three days. This last week should be utilized for revising the topics and General Awareness section.

We sincerely hope that following the above you will get through with flying colors in SSC MTS Tier 1.
