Rajiv Gandhi Digital Free Laptop Scheme 2017 – Merit List
Last year, the distribution of the laptops was slated to be held on July 29, 2016. However, the programme was postponed because of myriad problems. The Board decided that the date for distribution of free laptops to be carried out on 15th April in incorporation with Himachal day, when the technical bidding and procurement of the devices were supposed to be completed.
Four major entities including Acer and HP have presented their tender to the State Electronic Development Corporation Limited for the distribution of the laptops that were ordered. The technical bidding began after the raising of the issue of outdated models being distributed by the Shimla MLA Mr Suresh Bharadwaj and Leader of the Opposition of the State P.K. Dhumal.
Both the leaders claimed that the meritorious students must be awarded latest models with updated specifications and should not be given an outdated version of the laptops. As a result, after the scrutiny of all the latest specification according to the budget of the scheme, a tender of 10,000 laptops was opened. The leaders took care that the laptops were of the updated specifications this time.
When the technical bidding was completed last year, on July 29, 2016, the next step was financial bidding in the procurement of the laptops; however, the process took some time. After the participation of the four companies in the technical bidding, a financial bidding was supposed to be initiated immediately for settling on the best deals for the laptops. The government was facing some issues, as there was a delay in the implementation of the scheme.
