The very first step in the process is a written test, dubbed as a Knowledge Test. It examines the candidate’s intellectual faculties and assesses how much they know about the relevant field. This test consists of multiple choice questions (MCQs), whose total number would be 100 Questions.

The total marks for the examination will be 80 marks. The duration of the exam would be 90 minutes (or one and a half hours). The medium of the questions and answering would be in Hindi, except for questions where answering in English would be needed.

The written test asks candidates questions on general studies, agriculture, animal husbandry, reasoning, numerical ability, current affairs, general science and so on and so forth.

The next step of the process involves what is called the physical measurement test (PMT). Normally, there is a set criteria for candidates applying for this selection procedure, demanding that they be of a certain height and of a certain build. However, in a PMT, the heights of candidates are actually measured for record keeping and future reference.

An interesting factor involved in it is that the examiners can award extra marks to those candidates who are taller than the prescribed, minimum height, and that this rule is applicable for both male and female candidates.

Candidates who qualified the PMT will next be subjected to a physical screening test (PST). This test is useful to measure and understand the extent to which a candidate it physically fit and how much endurance they actually posses. Actually, the whole PST consists of a cross country run, which candidates need to complete within a stipulated time.

Each category of applicants has their own criteria regarding distance and finishing time. Lastly, there is the interview-cum personality test, which follows the scrutiny of documents of those passing the PST. Those who pass the last phase gey quailed to become constables.
