The Andhra Pradesh Open School Society is the first ever Open School in India that had been established as an autonomous body or society under the Andhra Pradesh Public Societies Act.
It was inaugurated on 17th February 1991, which is also known as ‘the Ugadi Day’ and was incorporated under the Act on 20th February. The Chief Patron of the society is the Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh Sri N. Chandra Babu Naidu and the patron of the society is the Education Minister.
The General Body and the Executive Board is chaired at the state level by the Chief Secretary of the government of Andhra Pradesh. The board is also divided into district level committees, one in each district, for more successful implementation.
These district level committees are under the authority of their respective district collectors, who are the chairman and their district education officers are the member secretary of the committee.
